Tracking my ascent out of madness, one post at a time

So, it was bound to happen. They always say 'watch out for the other guy' and tonight I wasn't watching closely enough. Story basically goes two lane road, me in right lane, Mario Andretti in a Crown Vic type object in the left lane. Well, he apparently got it in his head to show me what a Crown Vic can do from a dead stop in snow. That is, fishtail wildly. As I see the right rear side of his car drift ever closer ever quicker to my driver side rear, I have a few choices I can make, though I need do them very quickly. I can: A) Bend the fabric of time and space to my will and stop in negative distance on snow or B) Let the genius who thinks a RWD Ford battleship is the ultimate snow car hit me causing massive damage or C) Aim right and hope for broke I chose letter C. Unfortunately, I apparently hoped for "break" not "broke" . It suddenly became apparent to me that there is a very tall granite curb at the edge of the roadway, holding back the sidewalk as good curbs do. This realization was made as I was about .001 second away from clubbing it like a baby seal. I turned the wheel, hoping the tire would take up the damage. Turns out, the wheel and mostly the control arm did that instead. I'll replace the control arm for starters- the wheel is at least holding air. Best part is, Captain Asshat took off... splendid way to finish the evening I must say. The tire makes rubbing noises that can probably be compared to 1,000 screaming children locked in a room full of voracious badgers- it's riding against the fender liner like an 8 year old on a carnival pony :). On a lighter note, I'm glad it (appears) to have not affected any body panels, though the wheel is rather far back in the wheel well, so I don't know just yet. On a more serious note, I'm fairly pissed this happened, as I just don't need it right now (not that any time is really all that great to lay waste to your suspension :D). Why is it that all the damage to my car happens on that one quarter panel ? Some guy here in the apartment complex said to me as I pull in "Dood, I think something's wrong with your wheel. It looks funny and is making odd noises" (I'm taking photos as he's telling me this by the way). Those pics follow:
